Physical Activity Scoring Method

Your physical activity score is based on the duration and intensity of reported activities within a 24-hour period. The accuracy of your score will depend on how well you reported all the activities you performed during that 24-hour period. Scores are calculated on the number of minutes (duration) performed for moderate and/or vigorous activities and based on physical activity recommendation for health. To obtain a good score an adult (19 years or older) needs to perform at least 30 minutes of moderate or 20 minutes of vigorous activity daily. A child (18 years or younger) needs to perform at least 60 minutes of moderate or 40 minutes of vigorous activity daily. No scoring credit is given for light activities, as these are not clearly associated with health benefits or the reduced risk of chronic disease. The physical activity score ranges from 0 to 100 points. The maximum physical activity score is 100 and the minimum is 0. A score above 80 implies a "good" level of physical activity. A score between 51 and 80 implies a level of physical activity that "needs improvement". A score less than 51 implies a level of physical activity that is "poor".

A physical activity score greater than 80 means you are close to meeting the recommendation for physical activity that is necessary to achieve health benefits. A physical activity score less than 80 means that you need to make some changes in your physical activity level to meet this recommendation. Refer to the physical educational messages linked to your score and to the Physical Activity Information page for guidance on how to improve your physical activity score.
